NL Moves – November – Introduction to Juggling with James Burke

Where: The George Street United Church, 25 Buchanan Street, St. John’s

When: Sunday, November 18th 12:30 – 2:30 P.M.

FREE to ALL AGES

James Burke will introduce the NL Moves workshop participants to various techniques for manipulating objects. He will work with objects designed for manipulation – balls, rings, clubs – to provide an understanding of the extensive research that has been done in this field. The class will then turn to found objects (comb, clothing, furniture, anything) and the possibilities of these objects will be explored. The workshop encourages the integration of the physical world into choreography. Please bring activewear, no loose clothing. Though not required participants are invited to bring a moderate weight ball and/or an interesting object.

NL Moves is a monthly workshop series by DanceNL  designed to expose the general public to many different dance genres while promoting wellness and physical activity. NL Moves workshops are led by DanceNL members and highlight some of the amazing work and skills of the dancers and movers of the province. NL Moves workshops are happening every month throughout Newfoundland until May, 2013. 2012 AGM

The fall is upon us and DanceNL is back into full swing with lots of exciting events happening this year!

We would like to invite all members, potential members, members of the dance community and anyone else interested in our activities to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM).

DanceNL is holding our AGM on Tuesday, October 9 @ 6:30pm in the MMaP Gallery, second floor, Arts and Culture Centre. At our business meeting, we will elect new board members, discuss last year’s events and plans for the upcoming year.

After the meeting, we invite you to attend a performance of St. John’s native Christopher House and Toronto Dance Theatre‘s Rivers, happening on the Arts and Culture Centre main stage. This is the opening show for the Festival of New Dance and Neighbourhood Dance Works and DanceNL have partnered to co-host a reception after the show. All are welcome.

This is also a great time to think about initiating or renewing your DanceNL membership for 2013. You can renew in person at the AGM or at our website: www.dancenl.ca.

Our AGM is accessible province-wide – if you do not live in St. John’s and would like to participate in the meeting, e-mail us at info@dancenl.ca and we will arrange to Skype you in. If you are unable to attend, you can give a proxy vote to another member who is attending. Please e-mail us at info@dancenl.ca and we will help with this, too. (note: You must be a member in good standing to vote at the AGM or run for the board).

So come on out to our AGM, enjoy the show, and meet us for wine and munchies afterwards. Look forward to seeing you there!
