Robyn Breen leads December NL Moves

NL Moves is a monthly workshop series designed by DanceNL to provide professional development opportunities to dancers and to expose the general public to different dance genres while promoting wellness and physical activity. NL Moves workshops are led by DanceNL members and highlight the amazing work of the province’s vibrant dance community. NL Moves workshops are 100% free and happen every month throughout Newfoundland until May, 2013.

Creative Movement for Young People
with Robyn Breen

3rd Floor of the Arts and Culture Centre, St. John’s – Free


12:00 – 2:00 PM – Improvisation and Creative Movement – ages 13 – 17

This workshop will focus on improvisation and awareness skills. The workshop will begin with a guided contemporary warm-up, followed by exercises for generating creative movement. The workshop will culminate in the creation of spontaneous performances.

2:30 – 4:30 PM – Creative Movement and Choreography – ages 16 – 20
Designed for young artists interested in choreography, this workshop will answer questions like: “how do I get started?” Participants will move, experiment and talk, addressing ways to begin, how to edit, work with music, costume, etc.

A wonderful opportunity for the young dancer or choreographer in your life!

ABOUT ROBYN BREEN
Artistic Director of NewFoundDance, Robyn Breen graduated from the BFA (Honours) Dance Program at York University in 2010. Upon completion, she entered the Professional Training Program at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre where she is in her third year. During her studies, she has had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Debra Brown (Cirque du Soleil), Danny Grossman, Heidi Strauss and the late Rachel Browne. Robyn recently received funding from the NLAC to commission a new solo work choreographed by dance theatre artist Jo Leslie. Robyn performed this solo during NewFoundDance’s August 2012 performance at the LSPU Hall.

All are welcome to this workshop that will introduce participants to the basics of hooping technique. Cindy has been spreading the fun of hooping through school groups and community outreach programs funded by the Wellness Coalition for Avalon East. She is co-founder of Hot Hoops, a small family business specializing in fun and fitness through hula hooping. As a lover of moving to the beat, Cindy has done classes and workshops with Deneen Connolly in Salsa and Bellydance, Andrea Kitta, Kristine Nolte, Monique Ryan and Ainsley Dicks in bellydance, Adwoa Badoe in African Dance, Judy Knee in Argentine Tango, and Esau Jardon in Salsa. She was also a member of the New World Fitness Demo Team, an aerobic dance group created to motivate others.

The season is upon us! Yes, it is that time of year again – the time when we all start to think about renewing our DanceNL memberships! DanceNL memberships expire every year on January 1st and all members are now invited to renew for 2013.
