Caitlyn Hill and Natalie Hobbs will be coming to Catherine’s Dance Studio Inc. in Bay Roberts on Saturday, November 18 to do a 2 hour workshop on Partner Dance as part of NL Moves!
No partner required. Lindy Hop is a social dance where each dancer switches partner. No partner or previous dance experience is required. Swing dancing is an all ages dance and all are welcome to join in on the fun. We will teach the basic of swing dancing (6 count) as well as the Shim Sham (a choreographed group dance). Dancers will warm up learning fun old time jazz steps to jazz music.
Natalie Hobbs will be bringing her two hour workshop on Graham Technique to Dance Studio West in Corner Brook on November 4th as part of NL Moves!
Natalie Hobbs was born and raised in Celista, BC. She moved to Edmonton, AB where she studied dance at Grant McEwan and obtained a dance diploma. In 2002, Natalie moved to Vancouver, BC to continue studying dance at Simon Fraser University. By 2004, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. Since graduation she has choreographed for professional venues in Vancouver as well as the interior of BC. Since moving to Newfoundland she has taught for a year at Danceworx, Catherine’s Dance Studio and Lindy Hop on The Rock.
No dance experience required and all ages welcome. We will explore the basic movement of the Graham modern dance technique. Students will learn the fundamentals of Graham and explore movement through contractions and release. Dancers will begin with floor movement and then progress to standing finishing with movements across the floor. We will also explore falling safely. The workshop will also include watching some of Martha Graham’s work and a discussion of the dance technique.
Sound Symposium is hosting “Collateral-Shalabi, Adams, Crofts” in St.John’s in November and they are offering a free improv workshop with the musicians open to dancers, vocal explorers and instrumentalists on November 8th.
Couldn’t keep a hula hoop up when you were a kid? Then this workshop is for you! This class is designed with the adult beginner in mind. There will be plenty of modifications to accommodate all skill levels. Absolutely no prior experience is required.
Hooping is a fantastic workout that lets you move, sweat, and dance. Come learn some fun tips and tricks in a safe and welcoming atmosphere.
What to bring/wear: Hoopers should wear comfortable clothes and can go barefoot or wear sneakers or soft dance shoes (ballet, jazz, modern/lyrical, etc). Bring hoops if you have them. However, we will have plenty of hoops of all sizes available to try. We will work with you to find the right fit. 🙂
This workshop series part of DanceNL’s NL Moves series and made possible with funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. DanceNL is Newfoundland and Labrador’s sectoral dance association.
