Erin Holland

Erin Holland first studied more conventional forms of dance, such as tap, jazz and ballet. During the last 20 years, Erin has studied various forms of African dance from countries such as Ghana, Guinea, the Ivory Coast, South Africa, Cameroon and Haiti. She is inspired by the incredible energy of the live drumming and the sense of joy and community that these forms of dance inevitably bring. For over 10 years, she has joined Curtis Andrews in the Newfoundland performance group, Dzolali, which focuses primarily on the rhythms, songs and dances of the Ewe people in Ghana. More recently, she has studied with Guinean dancers and drummers, including in a 3-week intensive dance workshop in Conakry, Guinea. She is a founding member of the local group, the Avalon Gazelles, and has taught African dance classes to people of all ages. In addition to her dance experience, Erin is a group facilitator and adult education teacher.
