DanceNL is proud to partner with Memorial University Grenfell Campus to present an NL Moves workshop, Introduction to Irish-Newfoundland Step Dance, with Kristin Harris Walsh.
The Irish-Newfoundland Step Dance style is a hybrid of Irish and Newfoundland step dance. Think Riverdance meets Newfoundland kitchen party! Participants will learn a basic Irish-Newfoundland dance, and should wear comfortable dance or exercise clothing. Step or tap shoes are ideal, but any comfortable shoe with a leather sole or similar non-marking shoe will do the trick. No dance experience is necessary. This is a very active dance style, so participants are asked to bring a water bottle. After the workshop, participants will be ready to step it up whenever they are inspired!
Kristin Harris Walsh is a step dancer and dance researcher/writer based in St. John’s. She has trained and performed in the styles of Irish and Newfoundland step dance in both Newfoundland and Ireland over the past 15 years. Kristin has been the recipient of both academic and artistic grants to further her creative and scholarly knowledge and dissemination of percussive dance in its homeland and diaspora.
