Dare to Dance Flash Mob
We invite you to learn a dance and join in a flash mob for Dance Week in Newfoundland and Labrador! This year’s choreography is by St. John’s dance teacher and performer Lynn Panting. See the schedule below for details of flash mob events in St. John’s.
Can’t make it out in person? No problem! Here’s a handy instructional video so you can learn the dance at home or school: https://vimeo.com/213128963
Be sure to send us video clips of you dancing the routine and we will share them on our social media!
#dance4discounts
For the third year, independent businesses in St. John’s are offering a discount for a dance at the cash throughout Dance Week! Check out dancenl.ca or watch for #dance4discounts and grab some mad dance deals!
Random Acts of Dance
We challenge you to dance at random! Dance spontaneously in a public place and brighten the day of everyone around you! Dance at the office and get your coworkers smiling! Send us a video of your Random Act of Dance and we’ll share it on social media.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for notice of pop-up dance hotspots throughout the province during the week!

If A Place Could Be Made
DanceNL Member Louise Moyes and the Daly Family Collective (Moyes, Diana Daly and Anne Troake) will be touring St. Mary’s Bay schools during Dance week 2017 with their show If a Place Could Be Made. As part of the tour they give workshops in dance and storytelling, to reinforce the show’s theme of inclusion. In this workshop students learn a dance from the show and make their own version of it, which they then perform together. Thanks to ArtsNL School Touring Program for the funding.
Where: St. Mary’s, Mount Carmel and St. Bride’s schools
Admission: Free for school students
Background on Show: Kitty and Daniel Daly of Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland had twelve children, six of whom were very tall, and mythologized as giants, and six of whom had achondroplasia, were little people, or what is now called persons of short stature. Most of them had disabilities. The Daly Family Collective, the Dalys’ great-granddaughter (and great-niece), singer-songwriter Diana Daly, dancer-storyteller Louise Moyes and director-choreographer Anne Troake, have been asked to tell their stories spanning from the 1930s-2000s.
