Jane Dennison has been dancing, calling and teaching with folk dance groups for over 30 years and has performed across eastern North America.
She was the principal author and dance consultant for “Traditional Dances of Newfoundland and Labrador: A Guide for Teachers’, published by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2007. Jane has been a staff member with Vinland Music Camp since 2005, and coordinated the dance program at the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival in recent years. She is an active collector of traditional set dances from Newfoundland and Labrador and has worked with several communities in the province to revive dances that were close to being lost.
Jane has an MA in ethnomusicology from Memorial University with a research focus on the sustainability of traditional folk dances of European origin in Newfoundland and Labrador.
